Whether you're facing a critical decision, a medical diagnosis, or simply the daily frustrations of waiting in line, this episode will equip you with the courage to embrace waiting as part of God's divine plan.
It is so good to be back with a new season and a new topic heading into the fall and winter. As I mentioned during the final episode of season 1, season 2 will be broadly focused on the topic of courage.
I love how courage is defined by Lisa Bishop.
“Courage is the ability to face and overcome fear while prioritizing a greater objective. It is not the absence of fear but rather the determination to act despite its presence, guided by a strong sense of purpose and a commitment to achieving a higher good.”
Today's episode is all about having the courage to wait.
It may not be obvious that waiting requires courage especially when we think about our day-to-day moments of waiting. But this all changes when the type of waiting we are called to is far more critical. Like when we are waiting on; a diagnosis, hearing back from a hiring manager, or biopsy results. When we find ourselves in a season of high-stakes waiting it can be paralyzing and scary.
Focus Passage:
Psalm 27:14 –
Wait[a] on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord! NKJV
Main Takeaways:
- Waiting well requires us to wait with hopeful anticipation
- Ways to wait well include praying, serving, approaching the waiting with humility and expectation
- We can have the courage to wait well because God's timing and plans are purposeful
Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
It can be challenging to wait, especially when we face a season of uncertainty. Help us to wait well. When we want to rush ahead, remind us that pressing into your presence is where we find the courage to endure. When we find it hard to rest in the unknown, please make us aware that you are with us. Help us serve others while we wait, and reflect on how you are molding, shaping, and maturing us through the process. We ask all of this in Jesus' name.
Amen
